Fashionable connects children with disabilities with high school design students who create and modify a garment to overcome the childs dressing obstacle. The model receives a customized outfit, a boost in self-esteem, and solutions to their dressing limitation. The student designers learn more about disabilities, improve their skills, and help other kids. Upon completion of the garment, sbtx hosts a fashion show to showcase the designs.
The lending closet program provides donated emergency incontinence supplies and used medical equipment for families in need. In 2023, sbtx connected 350 individuals with these items.
Texas has been affected with 10,000 Spina Bifida related births annually, twice the national average. Outreach efforts include attendance at bridal/health fairs where volunteers distribute multivitamins, provide folic acid information and items with the folic acid message. On valentines day, volunteers provide folic acid gift bags to brides at the annual mass wedding ceremonies at the bexar county courthouse. Outreach efforts also include folic acid presentations at high schools and women's groups to help educate women. In 2023, sbtx shared the folic message with over 530 women and distributed 120 bottles of vitamins.sbtx provides support and guides new parents with information and resources that they will need regarding their child's care. In 2023, sbtx connected 3 newly diagnosed families. Resource and referral information-sbtx provides families with information regarding assistance and opportunities by connecting families with agencies and organizations in the community. Additonally sbtx provides assistance regarding education and the process of gaining support in the public school system. Tbs sbtx office houses a resource library that contains books/publications that contain information on the issues associated with sb. Sbtx provides information through email and mailings. In 2023, over 638 individuals received these services.
