After School Spitfire Club Programming: In 2023, TSC's flagship after school book club program served 161 children aged 6-11 years old, distributed over 940 books, and delivered over 195 hours of live, in-person programming to Club participants. Participants reported reading 21,953 books throughout 33 weeks of programming (a 52% increase from the previous year, with no significant change in service numbers). All programming was executed in service of TSC's mission to nurture each Spitfire's love of reading, love of self, and love for girls across all communities. Due to the success of the small group mentor pilot in 2022, TSC adopted a strategic plan in 2023 that mandates integrating mentorship into the flagship after school program. To this end, eight volunteer mentors collectively provided 60 hours of mentorship to after school Spitfire Club participants in 2023. TSC will continue to incrementally expand the mentor program throughout all after school clubs.
In partnership with a local public library, TSC licensed Spitfire Club curriculum and loaned class sets of books and necessary materials for librarians to build their own Spitfire Clubs that are free and open to the public. This program was offered free of cost to the library or participants. This program was facilitated by the library's Children's Services Librarian and two youth volunteers, who delivered 18 weeks of Spitfire Club programming to over 40 participants. Iterating upon lessons learned from each term of programming, the Spitfire Club developed and tested three units of programming that can be licensed to other interested agencies in the future.
