Program areas at Spread Eagle Chain of Lakes
We maintained an island on our Chain of Lakes (bass island) for residents of the Lakes area and the general public which included keeping the island clean, placing memorial plaques for donors, displaying signs explaining the historical significance of the island. The island is a rest stop for boaters, kayakers and people fishing, and swimming. It also offers the public a place to picnic. We also use the island for our fireworks display.
We operate a clean boats clean water program in partnership with florence county to pay people to inspect boats and wash them before the boat enters our water in order to prevent invasive species from spreading. We will also be monitoring middle lake and north lake for invasive species which was again detected this year. We apply for grants to help us in this effort to combact invasive species and we pay a firm which specializes in analyzing invasive species problems.
We planted flowers to beautify roads and crossroads around the Lakes. We also provide seminars on gardening.
We provided fireworks on the fourth of july which is attended by people from our Lakes and several surrounding counties. We also provided money for prizes for the most decorated boats on the fourth of july. Both the fireworks and the the boat parade are open to the general public. We provided a newsletter for lake residents telling them of upcoming events and educating them on concerns regarding the Lakes such as water quality and insect infestations which is distributed to all members of our organization. We also held a boat inspection for invasive species and provided identifying aprons for volunteers who inspected boats. We have an annual meeting for all members to voice opinions on lake issues. We paid for seminar attendance for members to learn more regarding invasive species in the Lakes. We paid dues to the Wisconsin association of Lakes to participate in workshops and seminars on water quality and invasive species.
