Program areas at Springbok Cares Corporation

Springbok Cares designed and launched the first hospital wide virtual reality initiative for patients, their family and hospital staff at the norris comprehensive cancer center at the university of southern California's keck medical center. This initiative provided multiple programs as a method of healthy escapist entertainment and therapy for those looking for a means to escape the confines of the hospital environment. This included services in the outpatient day clinic where patients received chemotherapy, a bedside program where patients could sign up for virtual reality sessions, that would be delivered and performed in their room, as well as specific services directed towards the adolescent and young adults cancer (aya) population.
Springbok Cares had another program at usc's dermatologic and mohs surgery clinic. This program focused on providing virtual reality experiences to patients undergoing surgery for various skin cancers. These services were integrated into a research study that evaluated whether there was a measurable positive impact of using virtual reality in a surgery setting to alleviate pain and anxiety for those undergoing treatment. The study was a massive success, with nearly every measurable category showing substantial positive impacts of the technology. Usc has recently submitted the study for publication in medical journals, to which Springbok Cares will be named as a collaborator in the study.
