Program areas at SAPSA
The Artist in Residence program funds one Artist in Residence experience per grade, per year. For grades K-3, and 5 they spend a full week with an artist. The fourth graders spend a longer time with a local puppteer and create a play that is then performed for the school and parents. The puppet show is a highlight of the school year.
We provide staff and educators grants to use for whatever they may need in the classroom, and at school. A large portion of this is used to fund art materials, science consumables, and PE equipment. Other notable expenses include photograph printing, Science Fair tees, books, sharing closet clothes for the health office and health office supplies.
We adjusted our programming model this year to allow us to be more nimble and react more quickly to the new demands created by the COVID-19 pandemic, the challenges of return-to-classroom, and renewed focus on creating joy in school, and in the community. The ad hoc programming was request-based and voted on by all board members. Specific to COVID, we funded an air purifier for an interior classroom, and rapid tests for the health office. We fully funded one field trip for each grade, an a guided wildnerness experience for the fifth graders in place of the traditional Wolf Ridge trip. We also funded items for a 'Sensory Room' to be used by the special education staff. This is not an exhastive list.
