Surgical Services: HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital's state-of-the-art hospital provides the newest and most advanced equipment and integrated technologies. The new building also allows for future medical innovations and easy upgrades in technology. With highly-trained and experienced surgeons on staff, numerous surgical and non-surgical procedures are offered in a wide range of specialties, including: cardiothoracic, orthopedic, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, podiatry and more. The hospital has nine Operating Rooms plus an advanced Hybrid OR. Another feature is Computerized Integrated Surgery, which is a sophisticated platform that allows physicians to remotely connect through tele-surgical technology to specialized physicians during surgery for consults, assistance and education. The in-house surgical team can tele-communicate in real time through the in-light camera to a specialist to address the issue at that moment, saving time and eliminating the need for additional surgeries. The Hybrid Operating Room is a surgical theater equipped with technologically advanced imaging equipment used in high-intensity procedures, such as neurosurgeries, vascular procedures and everything in between. These imaging devices also enable minimally-invasive procedures which require imaging techniques that can visualize smaller body parts such as thin vessels in the heart muscle. Utilizing our Hybrid OR directly impacts patient safety, because everything can occur in one room - emergencies or complications can be handled in one spot without putting a patient's safety at risk to move to another operating room. During FY 2023, HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital had 6,746 cases.
Emergency Services: HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital Emergency Department is open around the clock to treat serious injuries or dangerous symptoms. In an emergency, seconds matter. HSHS St. Elizabeth's relationship with local EMS teams in the field allows special alert processes for heart attack and stroke to be activated so patients can be seen quickly at our facility. Our emergency department staff includes doctors, nurses and technicians who are specially trained in caring for patients facing life-threatening and other emergency situations. Vituity provides physician management and expertise in providing high-quality care. With leading edge technology at our fingertips, we can process x-rays, CT scans and other diagnostic tests accurately and quickly, allowing faster diagnosis and treatment in a wide range of other areas, including: stroke, heart attack, shortness of breath, motor vehicle and other accidents, broken bones, abdominal pain, lacerations, and mental health problems. In FY2023, HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital Emergency Department had 43,268 visits and admitted 7,419 to inpatient services. The Convenient Care in O'Fallon, an offsite facility, had 19,061 visits.
Cardiac Services: HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital provides comprehensive cardiovascular services from diagnosis to surgery to rehabilitation and wellness. HSHS St. Elizabeth's is accredited by the Society of Chest Pain Centers, a professional organization focused on improving care for patients with acute coronary syndromes and teaching the public to recognize and react to the early symptoms of a possible heart attack. HSHS St. Elizabeth's, in partnership with Prairie Heart and Vascular Institute, continues to add envelope-pushing technologies and new procedures to lead the region in heart care, including TAVR (trans aortic valve replacement). TAVR makes it possible to replace an aortic valve without opening the patient's chest. In this minimally invasive procedure, a tube is simply inserted in the groin and routed to the aorta for the valve replacement. Prairie also brought the world's smallest pacemaker, the Micra TPS, and the CardioMEMS monitoring system for heart failure patients to the region over the past year. The Electrophysiology Lab is outfitted with a low radiation dose Bi-Plane angio suite where complicated procedures can be performed to treat a full spectrum of heart arrhythmias and implant cardiac devices to serve patients with irregular heartbeats. Other services provided include cardiac catheterization, stent placement, stress testing, pacemaker, implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), electrocardiography, coronary artery bypass graft (open heart) surgery and cardiac rehabilitation. During FY 2023, HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital performed 40,825 Cardiology procedures, 7,845 Cardiac Cath Lab procedures and had 6,427 Cardiac Rehab visits.
