Program areas at St Louis Ovarian Cancer Awareness
Survivors teaching students: saving women's lives. This is part of anational program started by the Ovarian Cancer research alliance. Wehave survivors who make presentations to 2nd and 3rd year medicalstudents at Washington university and St Louis university; to nurses atwebster university; to slu university resident physicians, uhsp pharmacystudentshealth fairs: patients, survivors, nurses and doctors staff booths at areahealth fairs. We staff health fairs such as Cancer wellness fair, amerenemployee health fair, siteman Cancer center health fair, jefferson countysenior expos, urban expo, pridefest. Through these fairs we reachthousands of individuals.public events: we advertise on outdoor signs in the St. Louis metro regionduring the month of september promoting early detection of the signs ofovarian Cancer. We also sponsor an Ovarian Cancer Awareness day atbusch stadium. We reached in excess of 500,000 people through theseactivities.provide 200 sister gift boxes on an annual basis to be placed ingynecologic oncologist offices throughout the St. Louis metropolitanarea in hopes of reaching all women who will be diagnosed with ovariancancer. Sister gift boxes are packed with gifts we believe will be helpfulto women with Ovarian Cancer as they undergo treatment and follow-upcare (chemo and ball caps, relaxation cd, inspirational book, note cards,water bottle and other sloca/ovarian Cancer items) and through anintroductory letter, link women and their caregivers to referral andsupport services available through sloca.
