Program areas at St Rock Haiti Foundation
Haiti is facing increasing challenges due to gang violence and political instability. In the midst of all that, SRHF continues to keep two health centers open to serve 75,000 registered patients. A second ultrasound machine, delivered in July 2022 from the Dalton Foundation, allows our doctors and nurses to expand access to pregnant women and provide better prenatal care. Through a partnership with the Haiti Nursing Foundation, SRHF hired a nurse Practitioner/Mid-wife in May to enhance our maternal child health program. A grant from the Catholic Health Foundation will allow us to retrofit space at the Macaco Centre de Sant for new lab equipment and SRHF hired a new lab technician as part of their post-education social service year with SRHF.(Continued on Schedule O)Education continues to be a significant program at the primary and university/vocational school level. SRHF paid the salaries of 49 teachers and administrators at four primary schools, one more than the previous fiscal year. The university and vocational program offered post-secondary education to 35 University students and 39 Vocational students. More than 50% of the students in both University and Vocational programs are female. Another partnership with Turner Construction and Marguiles Peruzzi Architects created plans to rebuild the ICGS school which operates under a tin roof with tarp walls. Construction will begin in the Fall of 2023. After being absent from the country for 3 years, cholera made a resurgence in Haiti. With a grant from Americares, SRHF resurrected and repaired hand washing stations from the Covid-19 outbreak, created a preventative education program delivered by SRHF community health workers, and was able to mitigate the spread and prevent any deaths from cholera in the SRHF patient catchment area.
