Program areas at Stand for Animals Veterinary Clinic

The recruitment and retention of veterinarians has presented a unique set of challenges since we opened in 2011. In 2022 we fully realized how dramatically the veterinary landscape had changed in a post Covid world. While there has always been a shortage of veterinarians, this issue became more acute over the last two years. We surmise that many veterinarians "opted out" due to the incredible stress of providing services during the pandemic. This situation was exacerbated by the fact that veterinary schools simply do not produce enough veterinarians to meet current needs and further complicated by the ever growing trend for large corporations to buy veterinary practices (85% or more of the practices in Charlotte are now owned by a corporation). The result of this trifecta is that veterinary compensation dramatically increased as had the demand for a four day work week. Once we fully understood the new marketplace dynamics we were able to pivot to adjust our fee structure and schedule to meet these requirements. We hope to see the benefit of these accomodations in 2023.
