Program areas at Stand for Children
In Arizona, Stand for Children was a key partner and sponsor of legislation to end the practice of charging administrative fines and fees in juvenile court. Stand had been working on this issue since the 2021 legislative session. Stand also successfully advocated for funding to support 9th grade on track programs in Arizona's high schools and for the defeat of a bill that would restrict academic freedom and teachers' autonomy. Stand also successfully advocated for funding dual credit programs for low income students.
In east baton rouge, Louisiana, Stand advocated and lobbied for school board approval of a budget that expanded quality early care seats by 1,100, placed literacy coaches in every school, ensured historic investments in literacy support, and supported a teacher pay raise. Additionally, Stand worked in support of the passage of four millage renewals that fund teacher pay, curriculum and support materials, and student programs. At the state level, Stand advocated for and helped pass legislation that allows for transfer of advanced course credits to any in-state institution, statewide teacher pay increases, and an increase in statewide early care seats. Lastly, Stand worked to secure passage of sb11 which provided system upgrades to the Louisiana bureau of criminal identification and information and the Louisiana supreme court case management system in order to make the expungement process more efficient and less costly.
In Colorado, Stand for Children was a key partner in securing the passage of legislation that reduced the cost of phone calls to people in state prisons, improved interrogation standards for juveniles, increased funding for special education, and expanded access to educator assistance programs. Stand's role included direct lobbying, earned media, parent advocate training, grassroots legislative outreach, and building communication tools for coalitions.
Stand operates programs in 6 additional states: Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Oregon, Tennessee, and Washington.
