Program areas at Standpoint
Legal advocacy/legal resources: Standpoint is the only statewide agency providing immediate and free Legal advice, consultation, and technical assistance to victims of domestic and sexual violence and the professionals who work with them. We serve thousands of individuals and agencies every year. Many of Standpoint's services begin with a phone call to our action line, which is available to individual victims, advocates, attorneys, and other professionals. Trained advocates and attorneys answer the action line, providing triage on the spot. Moreover, while our services focus on the Legal aspects of domestic and sexual violence, our range of expertise is exceedingly broad. Topics of concern include: orders for protection, divorce, custody, parenting time, immigration, identity theft, employment, housing, etc.
New laws training:the organization provides expert training to domestic and sexual violence advocates, attorneys, and other system professionals on all aspects of domestic and sexual violence-related law in Minnesota. The annual new laws training program, held at six accessible sites statewide, is the most visible of the programs. New laws is the single greatest source of up-to-date Legal information to advocates, attorneys, and other systems professionals. New laws focuses on Legal changes over the prior year that could impact domestic and sexual violence victims. New laws includes information on Minnesota's legislative changes, Minnesota court of appeals decisions, Minnesota supreme court decisions, Minnesota's tribal court changes, immigration policy changes, and federal legislative changes.
