The Starfish Foundation provides supplemental education to high-achieving youth living in extreme poverty in Guayaquil, Ecuador through grant funding to its Ecuadorian counterpart, Fundación Estrellitas del Mar, which provides Scholarships, Tutoring, and Leadership Development. In-kind scholarships reduce the economic burden for attending school by providing necessary supplies such as uniforms, notebooks, and books. Tutoring, which includes homework help and supplemental classes, fills in gaps left by the under-resourced public school system and improves academic success. Leadership Development empowers students to give back and become leaders in their communities to ultimately break the cycle of poverty into which they were born.
