Program areas at SON
UJAMAA COOPERATIVE FARMING ALLIANCE (UCFA) PROGRAM provides educational and outreach services to seasoned and prospective minority growers interested in growing seeds for seed companies. Funding for this program has initially come as donations/contributions from organic and heirloom seed companies. During 2023 approximately 75 growers have been educated on the benefits of growing crops to seed. MORE THAN FARMING (MTF) PROJECT is a series of short educational videos, produced by Steam Onward that focuses on the diversity of careers in agriculture, natural resources, and the environment, as well as diversity in technology, and diversity of people, especially women and minorities. Three videos were produced in 2023. TOBACCO EDUCATION. As a vendor for the Charles County Department of Health, Steam Onward conducted education and outreach to approximately 395 youth and adults about the health effects of nicotine use in various forms.
