Program areas at Stonewall Youth
We conducted weekly support groups and had drop-in hours three days week. All programs took place online using a secure virtual app. Drop-in activities included games workshops educational programs and more. About 220 LGBTQ+ youth participated over the year.
Eligible low-income youth can request that Stonewall Youth purchase essential items for them such as food clothes school supplies art supplies and gender-affirming items. We also provide items to youth who are homeless including food sleeping bags cell phones and more. Because of the pandemic we also provided limited funds to other local organizations who were providing essential items directly to homeless youth and low-income youth
Youth gain skills through staff positions Fellowships and other opportunities. They participate in leadership trainings. They develop and implement programs trainings workshops and other events at Stonewall youth schools and other community venues. They are active in and have decision-making power in all areas of work in the organization including program development and implementation facility operations and management and organizational development. They do outreach and education at community events. Because of the pandemic fewer youth were in leadership positions this year than usual. 15 youth were in leadership positions and their work benefitted at least 300 youth and other community members.
