Program areas at Strategic Solutions for Families
Utilizing the sexual risk avoidance education funding, ssff conducted solid ground healthy relationship classes in public schools in bolivar, coahoma, sunflower, tippah, union, and Washington counties. Ssff taught 1,295 youth, ages 15-18, viable skills to reduce teenage pregnancy, prevent sexually transmitted diseases, recognize healthy and unhealthy relationships; prevent unhealthy choices, and recognize dangerous situations both virtually and face-to-face. A total of 103 parents attended parent workshops.
Funds awarded from the womens foundation of Mississippi were leveraged to provide incentives for completion ceremonies for the solid ground healthy relationship classes and to implement a mommy-n-me parent program. Parents and students received completion certificates, phone chargers, water bottles, subway gift cards, pizza, donuts and other snacks.
The enhancing school capacity to address youth violence and prevention funding provided for the implementation of the solid ground school prevention program in the greenville public school district in Washington county, ms. Working in collaboration with our house Inc., the only state of Mississippi designated, culturally-specifically domestic violence agency, Strategic Solutions for Families Inc (ssff) worked to reduce incidents of school violence through improved school safety by addressing risk factors of youth, family, school and the community. Ssff built partnerships with Washington county youth court, local law enforcement, judges, community leaders, and agencies to build a strong collaboration for intervention and prevention in addressing school violence; expanding opportunities for parent and family engagement by offering mentoring, after-hour partnering classes and faculty training to help in prevention and de-escalation (continue from page 2 schedule o)
