Program areas at Strategies To Overcome Obstacles and Avoid Recidivism

Sud prevention: Sooar services 833 participants last year for prevention services. Services provided: universal strategy: coalition building: the community problems or issues we are facing associated with the selective population services we provide are too large and complex for any one agency or organization To tackle. In these circumstances, collaboration with community groups and the coalition is the most effective strategy for changing the programs and policies - in schools, business, government, and other relevant sectors - that are needed To solve the problem or achieve the goal. Selective strategy: the selective prevention Strategies were aimed at those at higher-than- average risk for substance abuse, who have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ace'), or at risk of suicide, but not necessarily showing suicidal behavior. Individuals are identified by the magnitude and nature of risk factors for substance abuse or are considered at risk for substance abuse by virtue of their membership in a particular segment of the population. Our selective prevention Strategies targeted the entire subgroup, regardless of the degree of risk of any individual within the group. Our program includes, but is not limited To: problem id and referral services: this strategy aimed at the identification of those individuals who have indulged in illegal/age-inappropriate use of tobacco or alcohol and those individuals who have indulged in the first use of illicit drugs To assess whether their behavior can be reversed through education. It should be noted, however, that this strategy did not include any activity designed To determine if a person needs treatment. The screening process also helped us To determine which program best suits the clients' needs. Once the screening/assessment is completed, clients are deemed as universal and selective, direct service programming is provided by the agency. We do not want those whose behavior or exposure does not fit that classification To be denied services, so they are referred To agencies that meet their needs (ie mental health, treatment, etc.). Student assistance program: this aspect of programming provided substance abuse prevention information for students whose personal issues, including substance abuse, were interfering with their school performance. Examples: early identification of student problems, referral To designated resources/helpers, follow-up services, in-school services, support groups, screening for referral, referral To outside agencies, and school policy development for student assistant programs. Faith in harm reduction: co-created a justice movement that connected people who use drugs, people who do sex work, and communities of faith through the development of harm reduction centered spiritual resources, ritual support, and spiritual care. Street outreach is an important component of Sooar's harm reduction Strategies. An outreach program cannot directly provide all the services a client may need. An outreach program that does not actively collaborate with others and build relationships throughout the community with several groups, individuals, and agencies will not be able To provide its clients with the services they need or advocate successfully on their behalf. Well, we had success with collaboration except for the church. This is how "called 2 care ministries" (c2cm) began. C2cm street ministry caters who are often indigenous To the community and are marginalized. The marginalized may be mistrusting and are typically not served by mainstream service-oriented organizations. Outreach workers seek out and connect with these individuals where they live and spend time, including locations such as ?community events, on street corners, parks, local stores, and other places that those who use drugs and perform sex work hang out. C2cm workers form mentoring relationships with their clients, link them To needed services and institutions, advocate on their behalf, and provide prayer and spiritual support. Community mobilization and environmental change Strategies: we are in the process of decriminalizing paraphernalia and stopping the sale of tobacco To underage minors. We have succeeded in 3 cities in wayne county, Michigan, outside the city of detroit. Hiv prevention: hiv is on the rise in metropolitan detroit. One city in our geographic area is in the 97th percentile of all cities in the state of Michigan. Therefore, Sooar was inclined To utilize all media outlets To increase awareness of the importance of prevention and testing. We produced a film and presented at the state convention: "don't let the hearse take them To church" is a faith, harm reduction, hiv, and mental health presentation has been submitted approved To be presented at the 2023 substance use disorder conventions
