Program areas at Suffolk County Perinatal Coalition

The downstate healthy start program provides case management services to pregnant women and mothers with children from newborns to two years old. Case managers make home visits to provide health education about prenatal and infant care, to encourage overall health and well being.
The enhanced breast feeding peer counseling program is a support service that encourages women to breastfeed. Counselors will talk to expectant mothers about how to breastfeed, any fears related to it, and how to advocate for themselves when they go into the hospital to deliver. After these women give birth and start breastfeeding, they can call the counselors with any problems or concerns.
