Program areas at Summit Community Gardens
Gather: Community garden: provide 134 plots to the Community, complete with water, drip irrigation, compost, mulch, tools, and supplies. We have created a fun, welcoming, inclusive environment with common areas with tables, shade, and fun programming that brings people together.
Grow: food security: we farm four large beds (~ 1/4 acre) to grow food to donate to Summit Community residents that are experiencing food insecurity. We have a "csa" program where we delivered fresh vegetables, herbs, and flowers to 15 families.
Learn: garden education taught 48 youth classes after school. 17 adult classes,75 days of summer camp, with attendance totaling over 300 members of our Community. Topics included high altitude gardening, seed starting, bee keeping, eating a rainbow, la milpa: the three sisters garden, pollinators, migration of the monarchs, and a day of the dead celebration.
Dinners in the garden: over 450 Community members gathered with us as we hosted 5 dinners in the garden: bee lover's celebration, cena en el jardin for the latino arts festival kickoff, chop shop bbq, family night, and a restaurant market. 51,825 expenses - 30,961 revenue Community education: over 135 people came to learn in our 15 Community (adult) education classes which included high altitude gardening, fermentation, intro to mushroom growing, seed starting, and everything elderberry. 4,178 expenses - 5,267 revenue
