Summit Community Gardens empowers the community to grow food locally and educates them on sustainable gardening techniques in a high desert climate. The garden hosted bee lover's celebrations, a Latino arts festival kickoff cena en el jardin, chop shop bbq, family nights, and restaurant markets that drew over 450 community members with expenses totaling $51,825. Over 300 community members attended their 48 youth classes after school, 17 adult classes, and 75 days of summer camp which covered topics such as high altitude gardening, seed starting, beekeeping, eating a rainbow and la mil.

Program areas at Summit Community Gardens and EATS

Learn: Teach 1800 children Pre-K through 9th grade nutrition, gardening, compost and cooking education programs during the school year. Lead camp and field trip activities for an additional 450 children during summer
Grow: Food Security: We farm 1/4 acre in our garden to grow food to donate to Summit Community residents that are experiencing food insecurity. We provided 2000 pounds of fresh vegetables and herbs to 30 families. Additional food security efforts include weekly provisions of 400 pounds of fresh fruits to schools as snacks for qualifying students
Community Engagements: DINNERS IN THE GARDEN: Over 450 community members gathered with us as we hosted 5 dinners in the garden: Alpine Distilling Cocktails, a Levantine Feast with Nosh Restaurant, Wasatch Provisions, Pie & Beer Night, and Firewood Garden Party.COMMUNITY EDUCATION: Over 135 people came to learn in our 10 community education classes for adults which included High Altitude Gardening, Charcuterie Boards, Bee Keeping, Hawk Watching, Watercolor, Family yoga, and Seed Starting.VOLUNTEERING: Provided volunteer opportunities to support school-based education programs and garden tasks for over 300 people.
