Program areas at Sunshine House

Our adult day service programs include both the Sunshine House and sunflower cottage. The Sunshine House provides opportunities for clients of all abilities, whether they need more one-to-one care or wish to participate in group programing. Each day is filled with exploration, adventure, and creativity. Activities are specifically designed to meet the abilities and interests of all to ensure full participation. Reading, playing games, arts, and crafts, researching topics of interest as well as off-site day trips to attractions and events are some of the fun activities available.sunflower cottage provides day services for individuals who may be diagnosed with parkinsons, alzheimer's or dementia; or seniors looking for socialization and companionship. Our private, home-like setting provides a peaceful atmosphere to provide the comfortable feeling of home, with their own kitchen, restroom and living area to relax by the fireplace. Compassionate caregivers assist in ensuring participants have a comfortable and meaningful day. Lifelong learning activities are happening throughout the day. Adult day services were provided to 64 individuals in 2022; 53 in the Sunshine House and 11 in the sunflower cottage.
Sunshine resources of door county offers safe and dependable transportation to all individuals that we serve. This initiative is to eliminate any barriers that may prevent participation in our services. Busses are equipped with lifts and all necessary safety features. Our fleet consists of five accessible buses, one transit van, two minivans and two sedans. This fleet provided over 18,000 rides for seniors or individuals with disabilities in door county. Riders included Sunshine resources participants and job seekers as well as local schools, nursing home and hospital groups.
Sunshine resources employment services offers specialized training to prepare participants for community employment. This includes job skill classes, resume writing, interview preparation, and employment opportunities. We collaborate with the division of vocational rehabilitation to provide job coaching and exploration. Each participant has a specific plan that is developed to reach their chosen goals and job coach assistance is provided for as long as needed to ensure the participants success. Our employment services program provided vocational support to 37 individuals in 2022. Training occurs both at Sunshine resources and in the community with on-the-job support. Our team partners with individuals support networks and local employers to identify employment opportunities that meet the community needs and the employment goals of our participants. With our help, 16 individuals found community employment in 2022. Sunshine resources paid over $69,755 in wages to individuals with disabilities while they worked to develop the necessary skills to achieve community employment. Our resale store also provides employment candidates interview attire free of charge.
