Program areas at Sustainable Finger Lakes
We launched our clean energy equity pilot program with grant funding from nyserda to persuade ithaca area landlords to convert from natural gas heating to heat pumps for lower income rental units. The program has faced delays caused by changes to nyserda website portals and backlogs with area installers. Only two projects were completed in 2023, but several dozen are in the pipeline. Weve had better progress with our tompkins county grant to subsidize heat pumps in lower income mobile homes across the county. This conversion is especially cost saving for those on propane or fuel oil, and 10 heat pumps were installed by the end of 2023.
Our other work with the neighborhood mini-grants program and signs of sustainability column continued as usual.
We awarded 7 Finger Lakes climate fund grants in 2023 totaling 13,421 in awards to low income households that will prevent 671 tons of co2 from entering our atmosphere.
