Program areas at Sustainable Transport Council
Project Rating Program: In 2022, STC delivered on our mission to benefit communities and the environment by recognizing over $1.7 billion in sustainable transport projects, which now support more than 129,100 pedestrians, cyclists and motorists every day. We supported 8 active project ratings of planning, design and construction projects. Three projects completed certification, located in North Carolina, Texas and Washington State. Two major highways completed Pilot Projects successfully in Oregon and New Zealand. Some project highlights include enhanced accountability for carbon and energy, reduced lifetime maintenance costs, enhanced safety for non-motorized modes and environmental excellence in construction. In 2022, the first certified tollway and first certified cycletrack are key milestones for the rating program.
Volunteer Program: In 2022, Greenroads maintained its volunteer community and continued to collaborate with universities, professional association chapters, our members, Sustainable Transport Professionals (STPs) and industry affiliates as partners. Over 500 volunteer hours were invested in 2021.
Education Program: In 2022, the organization hosted an in-person and virtual educational event for Earth Day with an industry keynote speaker, viewed by nearly 300 people around the world. Greenroads also hosted free educational webinars and continued our collaborative partnerships with industry and university organizations on technical presentations. Eight individuals successfully earned their first STP credential or advanced to a higher level credential. Staff also continued to provide technical assistance services to several projects pursuing certification in New Zealand and the United States.
