Program areas at Swaliga Foundation
STEAMTHEBLOCK: Steam the Block is an after school program culminating in a block party celebration. The block part celebration brings together students, artists and the community. This event served 150 people over 15 sessions. Theres was one session per month, one block party and two ad hoc sessions. There were surveys and interviews conducted with participants regarding their expereince which confirmed the results of the program with full confidence. The results of the survey were as follows: STEAM after workshop (95%), STEAM related careers (95%), and Technology Skills- programs and software (100%).
Outerspace Project: The Outerspace Project provides access to the latest technology, resources, materials and cultural arts programming to the residents of Ward 8 in Washington, DC. The project is currently building a container classroom space for this program. This project is intended to serve 1,000 per year. Swaliga Foundation has performed multiple forms of research to ensure a successful project. This consisted of evaluating shipping containers, exploring education spaces, talking to school principles and researching pandemic learning environments to document adaptibilty.
All Other Programs: The other programs that were held during fiscal year 2021 included: Swaliga International, Tale of Two Cities, Swaliga After School Program, Curriculum Development, Digital Content and General Operations.
Out of School Programming is the umbrella for all of our after school STEAM camps. In 2021, these camps took place primarily at Roosevelt High School, Burrville Elementary, Patterson Elementary and Swaligas own Virtual camp.
