SPORTS CAREER INTERNSHIP: Sports Careers is a six weeks internship program for 50 young men that allows them to explore careers in the sports industry outside of playing a sport. They interact with sports industry professionals in occupations that impact sports including technical, financial, marketing, legal, performance, analytics, facility management, flooring and more. The program also provides sessions and experiences that prepare interns to make important life and teach professional skills. It includes field trips and interactive workshops and provides free resources and keepsakes that will provide a reference for young men as they make lifestyle choices and encounter life challenges. Youth attending are assigned to the program through the MPLOY summer youth program of Memphis which provides their stipend.
Summer glam (girls' life academy memphis) is a six-week internship program for young ladies 16 - 20 in memphis. The 25 interns are employed by the city to attend the program which aside from their salaries is totally funded by the Tarik Black Foundation. The experience includes life skills sessions conducted by professionals from various walks of life both local and national experts who offer their knowledge. It also includes experiental field trips, hands on activities plays, books and culminates with a networking and awards gala allowing the 25 participants to demonstrate and utilize many of the life skills acquired and award them for successfully completing the program. The overall goal is to help ensure youth transition to adulthood being well informed, wellprepared and well rounded.
Tarik Black' Multicultural Watch Party and Celebration: Over 200 youth between ages 11 and 18 attend this evening winter celebration. The backdrop is a Euroleague basketball game played in Tel Aviv. In between game breaks youth learn and play games indicative of the cultures being celebrated. In 2019 we celebrated Hanukkah, Kwanza and Feliz Navidad. Refreshments from each culture are served, as well as traditional game snacks. Attendees learn the history associated with the cultural traditions. They leave the celebration with goodie bags that include gifts symbolic of the cultural celebrated. The event attracts youth from diverse cultures and backgrounds. The foundation makes available transportation for youth in the 38126 zip code who may not have transportation to the site which in 2019 was Bridges USA Center.
