Program areas at Team 518 Ministries
Our prison ministry encompasses many facets of our mission. Shane teaches classes at the prison with help from volunteers. These classes are Celebrate Recovery and Malachi Dads. We host leadership workshops that bring in pastors to encourage and equip the men who are inmate pastors. We have hosted 4 revivals this year that had speakers and food for each separate dorm. 100's of men participated. We hosted a "Day with Dad" for the men qualified to spend a day with their children doing fun activities and enjoying a relaxed day getting to know each other. Their caretakers were provided with entertainment and food while the children were with dad. Some of the men had never met their children before the event. Shane also has a pass that allows him to visit the men in the infirmary and punish blocks.
Children's Home: We train and provide mentors to the boys at a local Children's Home. This means background checks and making certain that these men will commit to visiting these boys on a regular basis so that they know they are important to someone. In addition one of our staff does weekly meetings that includes illusionist tricks, contests, and a bible study. We provide materials that the home requests such as recreational toys (balls, etc), and books or whatever they need.
Re-entry. This part of our ministry is to help the men who are released navigate the "new world" of being free. Some men have been incarcerated most of their adult lives. Shane helps with setting up checking accounts, provides money, clothing, food, help finding a job, vehicle plus set up meetings with parole/probation officers. There was also home where 3 ex-offenders moved into that was provided. We encourage the men being released to move somewhere other than their old neighborhoods where old friends exist. We also compiled a list of housing that will take ex-offenders.
