Program areas at Team Up Philly
Girls clubs: girls club is Team Up Philly's core program offered for girls in 4th through 8th grades in under-resourced philadelphia neighborhoods. Girls clubs combine fitness, nutrition education, and social-emotional learning with long-term mentoring from caring coaches. Girl clubs offer safe spaces for girls to grow stronger, learn more about themselves, and develop the key traits of cooperation, resilience, teamwork, self-regulation, and respect. Trips and outings open Up new worlds for girls. The girls challenge and support themselves and each other, building a positive peer network, and thus changing the trajectory of their lives.
Leadership academy: the Team Up Philly leadership academy provides opportunities for continued growth and mentoring for high school girls who have gone through Team Up Philly middle-school programs. The group engages in challenging leadership-building activities while creating a positive peer network, all supported by caring mentors. College and career-readiness, exposure to nature, arts and cultural activities, public speaking and advocacy, goal- setting, and self-defense classes are some of the enriching activities the group enjoys. Candidates can also receive training to work as junior coaches, mentors, and counselors for younger girls.
Tutoring clubs: Team Up Philly provides weekly tutoring programs for girls from 4th-9th grades. Tutoring focuses on inspiring a sense of curiosity, a love of reading, and building academic confidence in young students that will lead to their success in and outside of school. Students develop academic skills through engaging with culturally relevant curriculum and learning about inspirational women. Volunteer tutors from local high schools, colleges, and the community work closely with students to have the greatest positive impact on their progress.
