Program areas at Tempesta Di Mare

Greater Philadelphia Concert Series: TEMPESTA DI MARE IS THE ONLY PERMANENT ROSTERED BAROQUE ORCHESTRA IN PENNSYLVANIA. EACH OF OUR ANNUAL FIVE HOME CONCERTS IS CURATED AROUND UNIFYING PROGRAMMATIC IDEAS. RECENT PROGRAMS FOCUSED ON MUSIC WRITTEN FOR AND PERFORMED BY THE ALL-WOMEN ARTIST AT BAROQUE VENICE'S ORPHANAGES, AND EXPLORED MUSICIANS WHO TRAVELED TO FOREIGN COUNTRIES WHERE THEY BECAME IMMIGRANTS AND ADOPTED NEW MUSICAL STYLES OR REMAINED EXPATS. AT TIMES, THOSE THEMES SPAN SEASON-LONG EXPLORATIONS OF THE BAROQUE ERA'S MOST FAMOUS WORKS: BACH'S BRANDENBURG CONCERTOS AND VIVALDI'S THE FOUR SEASONS, PROGRAMMED ALONGSIDE LARGELY UNFAMILIAR MUSIC THAT INSPIRED AND SURROUNDED THEM. OR THEY EXPLORE A DISTINCT STYLE OF MUSIC , SUCH AS OUR TWO SEASON, 8 CONCERT PROJECT COMEDIE ET TRAGEDIE: FRENCH ORCHESTRAL MUSIC FOR THE THEATRE, OR AN ONGOING FOCUS ON THE REDISCOVERY OF THE ORCHESTRAL MUSIC OF BACH-CONTEMPORARY JOHANN FRIEDRICH FASCH. MANY OF OUR PROJECTS INCLUDED MODERN-TIME WORLD, AND U.S. PREMIERES OF WORKS NOT PERFORMED SINCE THE 17TH AND 18TH CENTURIES. A THREE-CONCERT ARTIST RECITAL SERIES AND PROJECT-INSPIRED AUXILIARY PROGRAMS, SUCH AS POP-UP EVENTS AT COMMUNITY PARTNER VENUES AND TALKS ROUND OUT EACH SEASON. PROFESSIONALLY PRODUCED AUDIO AND VIDEO OF CONCERTS CAN BE HEARD ON RADIO STATIONS WORLDWIDE AND VIEWED ONLINE.
Recordings and broadcasts: in a marketplace dominated by european ensembles, Tempesta is the only american baroque music group to record for the prestigious british label chandos, with whom we have had an exclusive recording contract since 2004. Our current catalogue includes twelve critically acclaimed cd's, which are sold and broadcast around the world. Our concert audio can be heard on radio stations across the u.s. on a daily basis on shows such as performance today, sunday baroque and many others. Through the european broadcast union our recordings are shared to over 56 countries worldwide, where they reach an annual audience of many million listeners.

Notable tours have included five european tours with performances at ath fasch festival zerbst (germany), gottingen handel festival (germany), the telemann festival (germany), and return engagements at new york's frick collection, the national gallery and at the folger shakespeare library in Washington dc.
