Program areas at Fund for Public Education
PROGRAM DESIGNATED: Public schools not only provide an exceptional education to children, they also serve as an essential safety net for kid's physical, social, and emotional wellness. The Fund for Public Education supports Teton County School District and its students in four key wellness areas through our programs: nutrition, oral health, emotional health, and peer engagement. Our meal support program, Feeding the Whole, provides thousands of free meals, healthy snacks, and school lunch debt forgiveness to hundreds of local families each year. Love Your Teeth and Straighten Up provide free in-school dental screenings to all kids in grades K-12. For many kids, this is their only access to oral health care. The Jean Coldsmith Wellness Fund provides free mental health care for students who have experienced trauma, grief, or loss, ensuring that kids have professional support when they need it most. And our peer engagement programs like Live Performances, The Jim and Becky Rooks Afterschool Activity Fund, and Cubs Care ensure that every child has the opportunity to join in the activities that make our school experiences positive and memorable.
SCHOLARSHIPS: The Teton County Scholarship program provides scholarships for local high school and home-schooled students who are pursuing college or vocational school after graduation. The program is co-administered by the Fund for Public Education and the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole, in partnership with Teton County School District #1. It brings together 70 local scholarship opportunities into a single program and provides more than 200 individual awards each year.
STUDENT ACTIVITIES AND SCHOOL DESIGNATED PROGRAMS: Extracurricular activities are one of the essential ways that kids learn new skills, develop healthy friendships, and experience the world. The Fund for Public Education proudly supports dozens of clubs, teams, and activities across Teton County School District. These range from our elementary spelling bees in English and Spanish, to middle school read-a-thons, to high school sports. Each year, thousands of local kids participate in programs that help them grow and develop beyond the classroom.
TEACHER HOUSING/CONSTRUCTION: In a community where the median home price is $3.1 million, the ability to provide attainable and sustainable housing is one of the most powerful tools we have for attracting talented staff and teachers to our school district. This year, the Fund for Public Education and TCSD#1 expanded upon the successful Cottages at Willow project, adding
(cont)four additional low-cost rental units, available exclusively for TCSD staff. We have launched a $14 milllion capital campaign, FOREVER SCHOOLS, which will assist in the planning and building of three 24-unit buildings featuring a mix of 1,2, and 3 bedroom affordable rentals with the goal of ensuring every TCSD staff member has access to safe and
beautiful housing throughout their career.
