Program areas at Texas 4000 for Cancer
Leadership development and community enagagement/summer ride program - every year, Texas 4000 competitively selects students from the university of Texas at austin to participate in an 18-month program designed to cultivate the next generation of students to lead the fight against Cancer. The Texas 4000 program includes a comprehensive curriculum based around our eight foundational leadership skills - self awareness, communication, resiliency, efficent planning, peer respect, situaltional leadership, techincal knowledge & skills, and vision & action. Texas 4000 empowers each student to raise a minimum of $4,500 for Texas 4000's mission, ride 2,000 training miles with their teammates to prepar for the summer ride, volunter more than 50 hours in the community, and play an active role in planning every aspect of the summer ride by attending weekly meetings and taking leadership positions within the team. Throughout the summer ride, the students share messages of Cancer awareness and prevention through educational programs given in many of the communities they ride. There were 85 students on the 2021 team's summer ride. Since inception, Texas 4000 for Cancer has cultivated more than 1,000 college students as part of the organization's leadership development program. Each year, Texas 4000 hosts events to engage the community in the fight against Cancer. One of those events, the atlas ride is on the first day of the Texas 4000 team's summer ride, where members of the community join the Texas 4000 team to ride. In addition to starting the team's 70-day Cancer fighting summer ride, the atlas ride represents an opportunity to convey Texas 4000's Cancer awareness and prevention message to hundreds of people, as well as, fundraise for the mission. While Texas 4000 did not host a tribute gala in 2021 due to covid, tribute is one of Texas 4000's annual events held to honor the team's accomplishements, celebrate the riders and their summer ride, welcome the next year's team, and fundraise to support Texas 4000's mission. Texas 4000's events empower the community to join Texas 4000 in the fight against Cancer.
