Program areas at Texas Art Education Association
Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) Program VASE recognizes exemplary student achievement in the visual arts by providing art students and programs a standard of excellence in which to achieve. VASE is the only art event of its kind in the nation. Students are provided the opportunity to bring artworks created in their art classes to their regional event where they are usually interviewed at an in-person event by a certified juror (High School and Junior VASE Regional events only). The juror evaluates their work based on a standards-based rubric and their understanding of the art process involved in the creation and development of their artwork. For 2023, Middle School (JR VASE) and High School Regional VASE Program events returned to jurors evaluating artwork at in-person events; TEAM (Elementary) events remained virtual, with jurors evaluating artwork online. The program hosted 28 regional High School VASE events with 31,999 registered entries, 20 regional Junior VASE events with 12,505 registered entries, and 20 regional TEAM events with 5064 registered entries. The 2023 State VASE Event remains an in-person event, with 2,134 entries advancing to State VASE. 151 artworks were granted exemplary status with the coveted Gold Seal award, and 60 scholarships were awarded to students based on their State Qualifying Artworks and on-site scholarship workshops. For 2024, High School and Junior VASE events will remain in-person events, and TEAM Events will remain virtual.
