Program areas at Texas Police Chiefs Association Foundation
The Foundation provides funds to individuals through the officer death benefit program if a Texas law enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty, the Foundation as soon as possible delivers a check to the surviving spouse, children or parents. No application process is used, only the notification of a qualifying death and appropriate person to whom the check is made out. The law enforcement officer does not have to be a member of any Association. The donation is to provide immediate funds to a family in time of crisis.
The Foundation has developed a recognition program for smaller law enforcement agencies. This program helps the agency develop basic policies and procedures. The purpose is to promote increased professionalism and enable small departments to have legal and easily understood policies and procedures in place without the high cost of hiring consultants or other utside expertise.
The Foundation helps support low cost training for small law enforcement agencies in Texas with limited budgets for training their law enforcement officers. Of the 2,000 plus law enforcement agencies ib Texas, some 80% are ten officers or less. These small departments have very limited or non- existent training budgets. The Foundation sponsors training at little or no cost on various law enforcement subjects throughout the state so that local officers have the opportunity to attend.
The Foundation makes donations to 501(c)3 organizations. When a request is received for funding, it is forwarded to the board of directors for review.
