TWEF sprang into action to provide services focused on rebuilding, restoring and strengthening the post-Harvey community; with specific concentration on the most vulnerable populations such as the elderly, youth, and low income. TWEF provided a youth trauma recovery program and empowered the elderly with post-Harvey disaster preparedness and actions steps they needed to cope, recover and enhance resiliency. With the launch of these programs, TWEF provided over 10,000 individuals in Harris County with the tools they needed to keep going. Empowerment Training Institute offers career readiness training, money management, personal development and business development training in a dynamic and professional learning environment designed to prepare individuals for success in a diverse and expanding global job market. Parenting courses are an essential part of ETI. Available to ETI attendees is the Technology Center, a state of the art facility offering training in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications, foreign language, money management applications plus internet search engine literacy, and social media training which are all aimed at college and career readiness and development of marketable skills. ETI also provides health and fitness classes each month. The ETI served over 10,000 individuals and families in 2018 with counseling and awareness sessions dedicated to Hurricane Harvey survivors. Donated facilities not included in program service expense was $11,940.00.
TWEF hosts powerful leadership meetings, seminars, and events to enhance the professional development of families. The Women & Money Mentoring series seeks to facilitate enrichment workshops as a mechanism of prevention, intervention, empowerment, mentorship and academic & social preparation among young girls and boys. The series includes a Womens Empowerment Panel with women from the business and local community who share their thoughts on the importance of having mentors, balancing life and reaching financing goals. As a continued service, monthly life coaching and mentorship meetings are held. This program has served over 5,450 families annually with a focus on families devastated by Hurricane Harvey. TWEF followed the same strategic plan for growth by launching a male component of the organization. The male component called M.E.N. (Mentoring, Educating, and Networking) got off to a great start. TWEF Community Garden was initiated in 2015 to allow youth and elderly alike to enjoy the use of gardening to provide intergenerational and cross-cultural connections with access to fresh fruit and vegetables and weekly physical activities. The community garden also teaches entrepreneurial skills to the youth. In 2018, the Garden provided live produce to Hurricane Harvey survivors.
The TWEF Read to Lead program is an annual focus to equip the youth and community with access to technology. However, this years giveaway changed drastically due to the effects of Hurricane Harvey. Many students and their families were left without homes, posessions and other necessities. TWEF decided to give not only computers but provide families with clothing and meals to help the students in need. Students from two local schools were selected to write an essay. Those students with the most compelling essays were the chosen recipients of TWEFs holiday computer give-away. The increased level of aide to the community is projected to continue over the next three years.
The Eagle Scholars Student Enrichment Program seeks to facilitate after school enrichment workshops as a mechanism of prevention, intervention, empowerment, mentorship and academic and social preparation among academically challenged students, special needs students and developing student leaders through facilitating college preparation studies, student leadership development, academic assistance and lifestyle training, and a Youth STEM & Leadership Entrepreneur Camp. The program focused on developing boys and girls ages 8-18 by exposing them to business ownership, community involvement through educational exposure trips and excursions. During 2018, the impact of Hurricane Harvey required an increased focus on youth involvement in community service to meet. TWEF also provided college scholarships to deserving boys and girls. This program served 4,400 youth. Donated facilities not included in program service expense was $11,940.00.
