Community education and outreach program: 1to1 educates community members and students about the importance of sustainable living and the resulting benefit to the environment, community health, and the local economy.The educational outreach program focuses on increasing community awareness. This program provides opportunities to participate in speaking engagements, providing information through classroom lectures. The program works with students of all ages throughout the community to provide lessons on the importance of sustainability practices and effective habit-changing practices.1to1 Educational programs focus on developing a working definition for sustainability in the minds of the audience. 1to1 educators then work directly with students to develop solutions to issues in the fields of waste, water, energy, food, and transportation. In 2015, the 1to1 movement reached 9,028 students in small group, highly participatory, classroom presentations. 1to1 is dedicated to working with underserved communities above all.The 1to1 Movement also teaches local classes, under the program name San Diego sustainable living institute, which are focused on advanced urban homesteading practices such as organic gardening, backyard chicken keeping, rainwater harvesting, beekeeping, and eleven more. These classes are donation based and open to anyone in the community.The events are conducted at all levels of the educational system: elementary, middle school, high school and collegiate institutions. The program is funded through grants and donations from the public and local businesses.Social engagement: The 1to1 movement works to create social media content, multimedia, and events to powerfully impact community members to see the positive benefits of promoting a sustainable lifestyle1to1 Movement has reached over 27,000 students with interactive and experiential environmental learning courses.
