Health Education: The Poe Center's programs can be delivered in-house or off-site. The raleigh teaching facility offers private and public schools, home school groups, and community organizations The opportunity to experience The Poe Center's mission and vision in one of seven interactive teaching theaters. Each theater incorporates hands-on learning with technology and museum-quality equipment and exhibits, thus making The educational component fun and exciting for field trips and visitors of all ages. Poe's programs address: puberty and family issues, general Health and The human body, drug/alcohol/tobacco use prevention, dental Health, physical activity and nutrition, and bullying prevention. The majority of The Poe Center's curriculum aligns with The north carolina department of public instruction (ncdpi) healthful living essential standards. By ensuring that certain programs are ncdpi-aligned, The Poe Center is better equipped to support The educators in meeting state-determined goals and objectives.
Substance use prevention: in an effort to reduce substance use initiation, The Poe Center increases protective factors and decreases risk factors for substance use through direct educational sessions, resource dissemination, social marketing, and community-based engagement that addresses policies and system changes.
Nutrition and physical activity Education (snap-ed)in an effort to increase healthy nutrition and physical activity with eligible individuals and those who receive supplemental nutrition assistance, The Poe Center provides Education on healthy dietary habits and The importance of physical activity through direct Education sessions, policies, systems, and environmental changes, as well as social marketing initiatives.
