Amber and Adam Tarshis Foundation

In 2022, The Amber and Adam Tarshis Foundation made rapid progress on three major objectives. First, we completed the core renovation work on our wildlife management site which ensures that we attract significant amounts of wild boar and deer to our field site in Northern California, setting us up for studies of target wild animal movements and behavior which will aid our sterilization efforts. Second, we continued progress on identifying and testing options for multiple vaccine vectors which have the potential to offer single dose sterilization of wild board populations. With the addition of Mo Selman, a senior PhD scientist with past experience at Merk and other high profile vaccine development companies, to our staff, we are well positioned for continued rapid progress towards a single dose sterilant for wild animal populations. Finally, the Foundation continued its direct support of numerous animal rescue and welfare organizations working with local Los Angeles city and county shelters on large scale rehoming and spay/neuter efforts. Our direct engagement with START Rescue led to the evacuation of over 1000 animals from LA city shelters in 2022, and partnerships with veterinarians and vet techs in Los Angels and surrounding areas supported over 500 low cost spay neuter operations for companion animals.
