Program areas at The Peace Appeal Foundation
In the FY Ended 6/30/24, the Peace Appeal continued to collaborate with partners in Southeast Asia, Southern Africa, the Middle East and in the United States. The three broad areas of our activity included 1) partnering with peacemakers promoting dialogue, democracy and human rights, 2) aiding local initiatives seeking to ameliorate those most affected by conflict, and 3) investing in research and knowledge sharing initiatives on non-violence, transitional justice and other topics to build awareness and the capacity of peacemakers and their allies. The forms of our support this past year included technical and financial assistance, e.g. ongoing consultations, program development, as well as grants to partner institutions and peacemakers. Examples of this support to stakeholders from Myanmar included: coordination and facilitation of exchanges between stakeholders from different countries with extensive experience in transitional justice processes, issues such as conditional amnesty, as well as psycho-social support for victims of conflict; grants to support safe houses for political refugees and internally internally displaced persons; support to Myanmars National Unity Governments Ministry of Healths psycho-social support efforts, including their Zero Suicide Campaign, and others. In the United States, our partnership with the University of Virginias Democratic Futures Project supported exchanges with democratic activists, students and faculty resulting in several initiatives, including the recently published The People Demand Democracy: Voices from the Myanmar Spring Revolution. Our ongoing support for peace initiatives in the Middle East expanded in the past year, including technical assistance, training and grantmaking to institutions engaged in inter-religious and political dialogue among stakeholders to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and support to, and advocacy for, an increase in humanitarian relief to child victims of the war in Gaza. In the Levant, we continue to offer small grants to support a local initiative to aid refugees from the Syrian conflict.
