Advocacy:systems advocacy for The rights and quality of life of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.helped families secure post-secondary services for students exiting special education (transitioning youth). Helped families receive services through The autism waiver. Systems advocacy and improvement at The state level to ensure and strengthen human and civil rights for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities: includes lifespan oriented rights in public education and special education and continuing education, child care, housing, transportation, employment and family supports.legislative advocacy impacted 10,000 individuals and families, including education rights, special education, child care, transition planning from school to adult life, and privacy protections. Leadership on behalf of 7,000 children and adults and their families on state waiting lists. Lead statewide grassroots campaign effort to educate The public and decision makers about these needs. Other programs includeself advocacy network offices offers peer mentoring, training and promotes leadership by people with developmental disabilities. Together we're better promotes inclusive education. Community-awareness training on intellectual and developmental disabilities
Chapter and member support:provide information and support to local chapters to provide quality services and supports.support The Arc leadership program to develop staff leadership at The local chapter level.provide ongoing information to chapters about state and federal rights, laws and policies so they can utilize information at The local level. Provide consultation and training to chapters on self advocacy leadership.ensure chapter involvement in state-level policy development through The Arc of Maryland education, governmental affairs and legal advocacy committees state-wide. Conduct awards and recognition program for chapter, volunteer and program excellence. Promote public awareness about intellectual and developmental disabilities through social media.
