Parrot C.A.R.E.'s Serenity Park Sanctuary built six more large flight aviaries in 2017 and hired 4 additional part-time and full-time veterans, all of whom are overcoming physical and mental challenges. We ran programs for schoolchildren to help them understand that parrots need to be kept in the wild and not purchased to be kept in small cages for their long lifetimes. We also brought 8 additional parrots into the sanctuary who need to be placed in this forever home. We held our largest Veterans Day event to date, feeding over 7,000 veterans and their families and giving away gifts donated by Operation Gratitude. Metabolic Studios provided the ice cream truck which was a big hit. Serenity Park was the subject of a documentary by Robert Kenner of "Food, Inc" fame and Board President Lorin Lindner wrote a book about founding the sanctuary, entitled "Birds of a Feather," released in May 2018.
