Program areas at The Biodiversity Group
FIELD RESEARCH Many volunteer participants in western Ecuador assisted in collecting data on hundreds of animals, including several new species. The participants took thousands of data points, which continue to be analyzed to produce and disseminate information to managers to make informed conservation decisions. Results were reported to the Ecuadorian government and are also reported at www.BiodiversityGroup.org. Photographs and information on new and rare species were shared via our website and outreach programs.
General program work expenditures including supplies for Cameras for Conservation and general education
Biodiversity P.E.E.K. (Photography Educating and Empowering Kids), The Biodiversity Group's outreach program, was successfully implemented this year. Many individuals in two communities in Ecuador, near reserves in which we conduct field research, are now using photography to help discover, document, share, and preserve the dwindling wild life that surrounds their communities. The trained, adult mentors are paid for their work and more children are joining the program where they live. Additionally, many other conservation organizations as well as several other reserves in Ecuador, and beyond (such as Vietnam) are asking to have a Biodiversity PEEK program started in their areas.
