School music residencies - our school residency programs brought marching percussion, hand drumming, and urban contemporary dance to schools in new york that otherwise wouldnt have access. Students learned to play snare drums, bass drums, tenor drums, cymbals, buckets, djembes, and hand drums, emphasizing rhythm, precision, and teamwork. In our dance residency, they explored dance styles rooted in The african diaspora, focusing on body conditioning and cultural heritage. Our residency programs operated at hawtree creek middle school (south ozone park, queens), uncommon leadership charter high school, uncommon preparatory charter high school, uncommon charter high school, uncommon collegiate charter high school (Brooklyn, ny), rochester prep high school (rochester, ny), and public school 316 (Brooklyn, ny), serving 133 students
Bksteppers pro drumline - this program provided paid gigs to talented percussionists, particularly bksteppers alumni and hbcu band graduates. They performed at party citys juneteenth celebration and The peter westbrook foundation graduation, and atlantic health system leadership development series, engaging 15 performers
Bksteppers saturday drum workshop - engaged 53 students in our 30-week drum and dance programs, exceeding our goal of serving 50 youth. The program was a great success
X-factor drumline - our mount vernon, ny-based performing drumline combines showstyle drumming with high-energy dance and stick tricks,with 27 students enrolled
Professional development for educators - new 2-day short courses for nyc educators, approximately 50 participating
Houston percussion academy - new initiative in houston, tx. Engaging students in saturday drumming lessons, The program registered 52 students.
