The Endowment rents out office units to other 501(c)(3) organizations at a lower than fmv rate.
Program related investments (pris) are an integral part of The foundation's exempt programs and are undertaken to complement and extend its grantmaking activities. Pris are made to further The California Endowment's mission and vision. Pris are generally made as loans although other investment types may be used as allowed under irc section 4944. Each pri meets The following three requirements: a) The The primary purpose is to accomplish one or more of The foundation's exempt purposes; b) production of income or appreciation of property is not a significant purpose; and c) pri funds are not used to influence legislation or take part in political campaigns on behalf of candidates. See part viii-b and statements 20 and 21 for a description of The charitable purpose of each pri made in 2023.
Guarantee fee income is related to program-related investments.
Grant refund interest income represents interest earned by grantees on grant funds that were not used and have been refunded to The Endowment
