After reentering The space with live and hybrid performances in 2021, The Cell returned to live performances indoors full-time, beginning with resident artist olga rabetskaya's dance Theatre piece entitled elevator exploring cultural and language barriers based on her own experience with emigrating from belarus. This work premiered march 13 and featured five dancers with new music by masha vasilevskaya. Concurrently, The Cell launched its first gamemnaker residency dedicated to developing games that play out complex emotions and explore empathetic responses, entitled "play indigo".in may of 2022, The Cell presented The first new york revival of late theatrical pioneer elizabeth swados' earliest piece nightclub cantata directed by bill castellino. Based on The texts by sylvia plath, pablo neruda and other poets, nightclub cantata is a joyful song cycle of world literature about survival. Almost immediately following came The world premiere of jl marlor and cassandra rosebeetle's opera The final veil, based on The true story of polish-jewish dancer franceska mann and her determination and strength amid The horrors of The holocaust and her legendary final act at The gates of auschwitz. The all women and nonbinary orchestra and performers were conducted by micah gleason.in The summer of 2022 The Cell partnered with flux factory to launch "pink flamingo" a residency that commissioned three visual artists to create their own ideal space on The gallery floor ranging from dance clubs to contemplative safe spaces.in fall of 2022, Company in residence holdtight presented their latest dance piece entitled when The blossom passes, what remains? Exploring eco-psychology and reciprocity. Finishing out our 2022 season, The Cell alongside pittsburgh based Company off The wall presented The world premiere of abbe tanenbaum's play what kind of woman, inspired by The playwright's work as a personal organizer, during which she uncovered 20 letters written by women seeking illegal abortions in pre-roe america. Congruently, The letters were displayed in The lobby area for audience members to engage with prior to The performance.
