Program areas at The Common Acre
The Green Line: TCA staff hosted 8 monthly work parties between March and October at The Green Line. During this time we planted nearly 200 Great and Common Camas bulbs, and provided education on green storm water infrastructure, Native plants and their benefits to increasing the Native Bee Habitats to volunteers. TCA also hosted a youth cohort in partnership with Foster High School. TCA had 12 youth supporters at our monthly work parties, and we met with them weekly teaching about Native plants, green stormwater infrastructure and how to identify and remove invasive weeds.
Environmental Justice Cohort: TCA established a cohort of five BIPOC community members who attended a weekly sessions focused on environmental justice. TCA hosted invited speakers to teach the cohort about environmental justice issues in our region and volunteered at different BIPOC owned sites in our region to learn about land management, landscaping and food sovereignty. To conclude the cohort we built a landscape plan for Estelita's Library, a Black owned library with the cohort members.
Chief Seattle Club:TCA built two ADA accessible garden beds on top of Chief Seattle Club's ?al ?al residential building in Pioneer Square Seattle. In addition, TCA hosted weekly roof top garden sessions with the residents.
