Narragansett Bay Coyote Study - Since 2004 we have been working on factors effecting the apparent growth of the coyote population on Aquidneck and Conanicut Islands. Since food has been linked to coyote fecundity we are examining food resource using GPS collars. The collars allow us to identify important foods for coyotes, and we have found that coyotes are heavily subsidized by anthoprogenic resources. We are using this information and other behavioral and hapit-use data to understand the role of the coyote in our local environment and communities. We are working with towns to draft sustainable management and coexistence strategies.
