One of The most innovative internationally-acclaimed artists working today, new york-based mika rottenberg uses humor to convey The surprising ways in which we are all connected. The exhibition presented The artist's most important videos and sculptures of The past decade in The first Museum survey of her work on The west coast.cara levine: to survive i need you to survive. (february 16, 2023-july 30, 2023). Through video, sculpture, and installation, The california-based artist uses her artistic practice as a means to explore and process grief around personal and collective traumas, highlighting how creative endeavors can facilitate healing and help mourners find meaning in community with one another. L'chaim: celebrating our building at 15. (february 16, 2023-june 9, 2024). The cjm's celebrated building, designed by world-renowned architect daniel libeskind, has served as an artistic, community, and cultural generator since its opening fifteen years ago. This exhibition delves into The deep Jewish symbolism imbued in The building's architectural forms, allowing visitors to unlock their meaning. San francisco artist annie albagli's video and sculpture draw on Jewish ritual, her egyptian Jewish ancestry, and The geology of The marin headlands, conveying The elemental forces of faith and nature.gillian laub: family matters. (october 13, 2022-april 9, 2023). For The last two decades, gillian laub has used The camera to investigate how society's most complex questions are often writ large in our most intimate relationships. As it moved through time, The exhibition became a microcosm of a conflicted nation, as The artist and her parents found themselves on opposing sides of a political divide prompting everyone to ask what really binds them together.oz is for oznowicz: a puppet family's history. (july 21, 2022-march 5, 2023). Frank oz is a legendary actor, film director, and performer known widely for being The closest collaborator of muppet creator jim henson. Oz originated and performed many iconic muppet characters, including miss piggy, fozzie bear, and cookie monster, as well as yoda in The star wars films. Oz's path to performing, puppetry, and use of humor as a tool for both social critique and social good, was paved by his parents, isidore (mike) and frances oznowicz. What we hold: a youth audio project. (april 8, 2022-march 24, 2023). What shapes us? Which family histories become our core stories? How do we make them our own? In this online audio exhibition, teens ranging in age from 15 to 18 years old created individual audio recordings reflecting on and connecting with their families' stories of migration, resilience, acceptance, identity and passion.the jim henson exhibition: imagination unlimited. (march 31, 2022-august 14, 2022). This exhibition celebrated The legacy of jim henson (1936-1990), trailblazing puppeteer, animator, cartoonist, actor, inventor, and filmmaker. Featuring 150+ objects from sesame street, The muppet show, and more, The exhibition highlighted henson's groundbreaking work for film and television, his indelible mark on popular culture, and The profound social impact of his work. His stories continue to delight audiences and inspire children and adults to look beyond differences and build a more compassionate, inclusive world.tikkun: for The cosmos, The community, and ourselves. (february 17, 2022-january 8, 2023). Works by thirty bay area based Contemporary artists reflecting on The Jewish concept of tikkun (hebrew for "to repair"). In a moment of collective challenges and uncertainty, this exhibition re-examined The term tikkun as a phenomenon of care and interconnectedness that is grounded in personal action, environmental responsibility, and community, unfixed from its evolving meanings throughout history. Taken together, The works in this exhibition considered how The concept of tikkun can help us look critically both inward and outward, guide us through change, and build resilience for The ongoing work of repair.program and education highlightsthe cjm is among The bay area's most important arts and Jewish education resources for k-12 students and teachers. All tours and accompanying artmaking workshops are free. During fiscal year 2023, k-12 school programs were offered both online and in person. Interactive tours of exhibitions and The cjm's building led by professional educators are The centerpiece of The program. Online curriculum resources enhance teachers' ability to incorporate tour content in The classroom. Online art making workshops deepen students learning and foster creativity.access programsthe cjm offers a wide array of access programs free of charge to fulfill a community need for high-quality, individualized opportunities for seniors and people with disabilities. In fiscal year 2023, The cjm continued this longstanding dedication to accessibility, with an extensive range of programming for visitors with intellectual, physical, or social barriers to participation. These activities were offered online and in person.teen programsthe centerpiece of The cjm's teen programs is The teen art connect (tac) internship, a yearlong, paid internship at The cjm that provides hands-on work experience, apprenticeships, professional development workshops, and skill-building arts activities. Ten tac interns planned and produced a series of events for their peers about Jewish culture and art. Activities included teen-led architecture tours, artist workshops, panel discussions, art-making activities, and The teen-curated exhibition what we hold: a youth audio project. Each of these programs provided opportunities for teens to explore creative expressions of Jewish identity.
