Wednesday Lunches are held approximately 20 times a year. Average attendance is 40 members. Danish recipes are served. Program includes songs and guest speakers. This is an opportunity for fellowship, particularly among seniors, as approximately 80% to 90% of thory year since the early 20th century.
A gala dinner, a special luncheon (called Julefrokost), and a Children's Christmas party all combine traditional Danish food, decorations, and dances with fellowship. Children learn how to create traditional Danish Christmas tree ornaments. Educational activities at the Danish American Center include Danish language classes and maintenance of a lending library. The library stocks Danish language books and literature, videos, and CDs on Danish and Scandinavian culture. Popular events include a Midsummer celebration, musical performances, and presentations on various special-interest topics. The Danish American Center collaborates with two other not-for-profit organizations, OLLI and SHiFT, to provide programs and educational opportunities for seniors. In addition to the special events and holiday celebration, the Danish American Center is host to a number of regular activities. Examples include genealogy studies, folk dancing, movie nights, a reading circle, a workmen's group, game nights, arts and crafts, and general get-togethers. In addition to its own activities, the Danish American Center provides a space for meetings of multiple other cultural and ethnic not-for-profit organizations.Danish Day gathers more than 400 people and includes guest speakers, Danish food, displays, booths, music, crafts, and folk dances. Danish Day is the celebration of Denmark's constitution and is a tradition with deep roots in Minnesota's Danish-American community. It has been celebrated every year since the early 20th century.
