The Discovery Orchestra, Inc., teaches listening skills that emotionally connect people with classical music. For over 30 years, Artistic Director George Marriner Maull and the Discovery Orchestra have been fulfilling this mission. They offer community outreach programs, including both virtual and in-person music listening sessions. During the fiscal year, they presented nine such sessions in collaboration with six music student and senior partner organizations. The organization is located in Summit, NJ.

Program areas at The Discovery Orchestra

1. "discover saint-saens organ' symphony" production & distribution this interactive, educational concert - our 6th for public television - was taped in front of a live audience of 600 people on september 18, 2022 at hauser auditorium at The pingry school in basking ridge, new jersey. Maestro maull and 91 Orchestra musicians explored The exciting "finale" from camille saint-saens' "symphony no. 3." The concert format helps audience members and viewers notice more musical detail and enhance their enjoyment and understanding of The music. Our production partner was midnight media group, Inc. and national broadcasts began via distributor american public television in The spring of 2023.
3.community outreach - we partnered with eight local student and seniororganizations to provide educational music listening programs for these groups. During The fiscal year, four in-person sessions were presented at The partner organizations' locations. Two other sessions were presented to music student partners virtually. We also provided transportation for four of The outreach organizations to attend The live taping of our "discover saint-saens" television program in september 2022.
2.other media program production, distribution and promotion considerable staff time was spent creating, distributing and/or promoting six major projects. See schedule o for further information.1) regular episodes of our twice-monthly radio program, "inside music", in partnership with wwfm The classical network in new jersey; 2) The release of several episodes of our video/podcast series, notes from under The piano; 3) national re-releases of two of our past public television programs: "discover vivaldi's four seasons and The "fall in love with music" series; 4) The final 10 months of national distribution of our "discover The firebird" public television program; 5) The development phase for The initial templates of our new game app, "aha! Classical; and 6) a program promotion campaign with partner social impact studios. The "four seasons and "fall in love with music" programs were in The 2nd year of their re-release. Additionally, The two television re-releases as well as The "firebird" program were available on The pbs passport streaming platform. Past digital programs continued being distributed on The films media group and amazon prime video platforms, as well as through american public television worldwide. Some royalties and streaming sales resulted from this distribution. In addition to specific promotion around The release of our "discover saint-saens" television program (reflected in The first program service area above), social impact studios worked on general media program promotion and our game app development (reflected in this program service area).
Musicians fees and prorated staff time/office expense to produce and present our live radio broadcast: discover The chevalier de saint-georges, and to organize and participate in The new jersey youth symphony concert collaboration.
