Description
The Discovery Science Place ignites curiosity in young minds through fun, hands-on exploration by creating a learning environment with exhibits. It serves the children, families, and educators of East Texas. In spring and summer 2022, it hosted the Tiny Titans: Dinosaur Eggs and Babies exhibit which showcased a colorful, interactive collection of real dinosaur eggs. Unfortunately, Maker Faire had to be postponed until 2023 due to continued repercussions from Covid-19.

Program areas at The Discovery Science Place

In 2023 we hosted teenage mutant ninja turtles, the first-ever museum exhibit featuring ninjas-in-training - nickelodeon's teenage mutant ninja turtles! Exhibit attendees leap to the rescue and learn teamwork, collaboration, and problem-solving as they work their way through puzzles, mazes, and obstacles. We had 5,247 visitors to the exhibit.during our fall shutdown we updated the back of hometown, creating a space-themed area and moved the orion exhibit into the newly updated space. the southside bank exhibit was also fully updated. In addition, we added two new exhibits, the duck races, and an exhibit focused on earth Science. We had 9,359 children visiting on field trips and 85 camp registrants.
We restarted our annual maker faire, renamed as "full steam ahead", in 2023. We had makers of all kinds- robotics, chemistry, coding, local artisans and many hands-on making stations. Unfortunately, we only had 100 attendees the first year back since covid.
