Program areas at The Farmer's House
Community integration: a structured program providing meaningful activities in local communities that offer opportunities and experiences for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to increase autonomy and self-reliance, empower choices, maximize dignity, and encourage positive social interactions and healthy lifestyles. The program cultivates The discovery of individual talents, fosters self-determination and builds vocational skills so that participants actively contribute to The cultural and economic life of our community. Program activities occur weekdays.
Employment services: providing career exploration and discovery activities based on individual abilities, skills and interests. Services focus on providing meaningful activities that support job skills development, vocational exploration and, ultimately, employment placement and retention. Services are highly individualized and occur seven days a week.
Early work experience: providing vocational exploration and job skills development experiences for middle and high school students in The context of our social enterprises retail markets, gardens, commercial kitchens and catering. Through hands-on experience and guidance, students gain hard and soft jobs skills to become employment ready by The time they graduate. Services are provided in partnership with urban and rural school districts in Kansas and Missouri. Program activities occur in small group sessions assisted by school district teachers and staff and our early work experience specialists. Transportation is provided by The participating school districts.
