Program areas at The Florida Joint Council of Fire and Emergency Services

Each year, The Florida Joint Council of Fire and Emergency Services (Joint Council) and The division of state Fire marshal hosts The fallen firefighter memorial service at The Florida state Fire college in ocala. An additional recognition is held at The state capitol during The annual legislative session. These events honor The families of our fallen heroes with a traditional Fire service presentation of gratitude for their ultimate sacrifice. The ceremonies include pipe and drum units, honor guard representation from all over Florida and a large contingent of Fire service leadership. Each family is presented with a memorial medallion and a flag in honor of their loved one at The ocala service and The names of The fallen are engraved in granite tablets surrounding The memorials in both ocala and tallahassee. All funds raised are utilized to support The two memorial Services and family accommodations at The ocala memorial Services. The fund-raising campaign in The summer of 2023 assured we were able to provide hotel accommodations for our 16 families recognized, plus all associated costs related to The service ie; tents and chair rentals, florals, food for families and honor guard volunteers, etc. An additional event is held at The capitol in tallahassee in conjunction with The memorial recognition where The Fire service recognizes excellence in service in The form of "of The year awards" recognized by The cfo, governor and cabinet. Associated costs for this event are paid through The Joint Council.
