Ymca reads is an after-school reading assistance and mentoring program where at-risk and low-income children in kindergarten through third grade develop The reading skills they need to succeed in school. This early intervention program improves students' reading skills through mentoring and The use of a research-based, data-driven curriculum. It also helps students achieve or maintain satisfactory school attendance and behavior both essential ingredients to school success. The ymca reads program successfully closes The achievement gap in students' reading performance with structured curricula delivered by well-trained mentors. The ymca reads program teaches literacy skills to students via small group tutoring/ mentoring. Mentoring enhances academic achievement through relationship building and increased academic self-esteem from learning to read. Currently The program operates in 17 public schools, 9 participating Ymcas in 13 counties in Florida.
Safety around water, funded by The Florida department of health. Program included, but not limited to hiring and training certified lifeguards and swim instructors, providing safe learning environments, building public awareness, offering basic water safety skills, training support staff and management of saftey initiatives by offering grants to local Ymcas, partners and local water safety coalitions.
The Florida State Alliance of Ymcas Foundation utilizes The collective strength of all Florida Ymcas to increase their abilities to develop youth, encourage healthy living, and demonstrate social responsibilities through our programs. To that end, our youth-in-government program impacted more than 300 students. The program offers a multi-year, multi-level engagement experience that starts at The classroom or local club level and tops out with state-level programming (officer training, advocacy training, service-learning training).
